Job Service Assisting Veterans

Posted: Updated:

Even with all the jobs available in the oil industry, it's not always easy for people to get started in the field.

A Job Service program called Skill Build North Dakota is available to Native Americans and veterans who meet the requirements.

This program not only offers financial assistance, but it better prepares folks in need of oil-related jobs.

"A lot of our military members that are transiting out, they have some excellent skills and sometimes they just don't realize and understand how they can translate to civilian employment," says Susan Ogurek, Veterans Employment Rep, Job Service ND

"We have a lot of Native Americans as well as veterans and other demographic groups too that are coming from other states. And, they get here and find out they don't have all the skills or the gear needed for jobs that are available not only in the oil field, but the ones related to the oil field," says Bryn Halgrimson, Customer Service, Job Service ND.

To find out if you meet the requirements, log onto www.jobsnd.com.

There's typically a few delays around harvest time, as railroads work to ship grain and other ag products out of the state, but with a late harvest, long drying times, and tough winter conditions, the state's two major rail providers are still playing a game of catch up.
