Hot Day in Magic City

Posted: Updated:

Today marks one of the warmest days Minot's had all summer.  For many, that means spending time outdoors enjoying the nice weather.  But, how are people dealing with the heat?

On hot days like today, there's usually a line of cars at the Dairy Queen drive thru, as well as people standing in line to cool off with ice cream cones, sundaes, and blizzards.

"Business is always thriving when the weather starts to get warm, we always have a throng of people here," said Steve Johnson, Minot Dairy Queen Manager.

Before the start of the work day, Johnson says they always check the forecast.

"When we know it's going to be hot, we know it's going to be busy," said Johnson.

To keep up with the big rush, Johnson says during the summer months they typically staff more employees.

And, just down the street at Oak Park, little kids, like Heaven Cooper, are making a big splash.

"It feels kind of like we're in a pool with cool stuff," said Heaven.

To cool off, the Cooper family is spending part of the day at the Splash Pad.  But, with such warm temperatures, they limit their time in the heat and sun.

Trisha said, "[I] make them come inside for a bit and drink lots of water."

And, the Cooper family is in luck because today is only one of the hottest days in the Magic City.  They hope more are on the way.

Heaven said, "I like the hot."

"Love it.  Love it.  It's so nice," said Trisha.

And, to cool off on all those hot summer days, don't forget, the Splash Pad is open everyday at Oak Park.
