BSC President's Run Preview

Posted: Updated:

It's hard to catch Dr. Larry Skogen. The president of Bismarck State College is also Acting Chancellor for the North Dakota University system. He doesn't have much time to spare, but is taking his motorcycle out a week from Friday and wants you to come along for the ride.

People are already getting their rides tuned up so they can head out on the highway with Dr. Skogen.

"We're gonna ride up to Garrison and we're gonna have a cook out there and then take a tour of the hydroelectric dam," says Dr. Larry Skogen. "I'm sure there's a lot of people that haven't been in the dam. We're gonna do that, then we're gonna swing around the other side and we'll ride back."

This is the 6th annual President's run and you can drive whatever you want.

"As it has evolved it's people that show up with motorcycles, people show up with sports cars and people show up with station wagons and vans. Just whoever wants to support it and get together," says Skogen.

In past years the BSC Foundation has used proceeds from the event to award scholarships, but this year it's going to buy tool boxes for the automotive program.

Lee Friese, BSC's Automotive Technology Chair explains, "The tool box program was put into place a little over a year ago. We have a former instructor that was here for over 34 years. He was diagnosed with cancer, he was the program chair and it was one of the was one of the last things he did for the program."

Dean Gunch started the program to decrease student start up costs.

"What he did for the program and the auto industry is unspeakable," says Lee. "It probably touched every shop in Bismarck - Mandan. Either through students or some of the training that he did."

The foundation is requesting a $100 donation from each vehicle and hopes to buy 32 tool boxes for the program.

The ride will be Friday, July 12th. Registration is at 9:15 am in the BSC Jack Science Center parking lot.
