Beulah and Washburn Fight for Section Seven Title

Posted: Updated:

The Beulah Legion team is going to have to do something that only Washburn has done the past three years, win the Section 7 title.

The Cyclones and Post 12 split a doubleheader this weekend, and one of those teams will likely win the Section 7 title this year.

Beulah finished third in state this spring, and they return nearly their entire team.

"Yeah, we're pretty deep in pitching. We got three four guys that can pretty much pitch against anybody. As long as they're on, we have got a good shot to win, no matter what," says pitcher Trevor Zacher.

"We've been doing pretty well, playing pretty good right now, hitting well, good defense, pitching well, too. It's been a pretty good ride so far," says pitcher Cody Nelson.

A loss in the semifinals of the state tournament also has amped up the Cyclones this summer.

"Those guys were pretty devastated after we lost to Grafton, and I think it motivates them this summer to try and win it. We're hosting state, so we automatically get in, but we're looking to win it," says head coach Ryan Bodell.

"We kind of got a little chip on our shoulder. We want to get back there and definitely do better than we did. That third place was definitely disappointing. We really want to take it all. We'll try and get it this summer," says pitcher Logan Behm.

And it's the baseball version of the Coal Bowl tonight. Beulah and Hazen are playing the first of a doubleheader.
