Fireworks Allowed Inside Williston City Limits

Posted: Updated:

Williston City Commissioners have approved an amendment to a city-wide ordinance banning fireworks inside city limits.

Residents are not allowed to shoot off fireworks on any of the days leading up to Thursday, and fireworks will only be allowed on July 4th and until 1 a.m. on July 5th.

Commissioners say a few things led them to lifting the restriction on the fourth. The first is the abundance of rain that has fallen over the past three weeks, limiting fire danger significantly.  The second involves police availability on one of the busiest nights of the year.

Commissioners are reminding residents that shooting off fireworks leading up to Thursday is against the law.

"We would ask people not to do that. People who have pets are very frustrated because the pets get very scared of those and it causes problems for them. And just to respect their neighbor who might want to go to sleep at 10:00 at night. So we ask people to cooperate, and just wait until the fourth and then they can shoot them off at their heart's desire," says Mayor Ward Koeser.

Fireworks will not be allowed inside any of the city parks.
