City Offers Curbside Branch Clean-Up

Posted: Updated:

Removing branches, this is what many have found themselves doing in the wake of the storm.

"The storm on Saturday night caused a mess for us to clean up at our shop on Washington Street," says Bismarck resident Pat Gilhooly.

Days removed from the storm, the clean-up hasn't stopped.

"We will be back. I guess two or three more loads for sure," says Gilhooly.

City crews will pick up people's branches at their home, as long as they follow the rules.

"Whenever homeowners have tree branches they need to dispose of, they can place them in their yard in a bundle light enough for one man to carry," says Public Works director Jeff Heintz.

The city has been charging people $3.00 this week to drop off all their own limbs, because of the circumstances.

"If they are bringing it on a pickup truck, and it's all loaded up with branches and logs, it would have been more than $3.00, but we want to keep people moving through the line. And we understand people are experiencing some damage to their property," says Heintz.

Even though it is convenient and at a bargain price, some still believe that it shouldn't cost them any money at all.

"It alleviates the congestion for sure. They're pulling people out of line. Getting the people with just branches out and moving. That's definitely speeding it up. But as for the charge, I'd rather they didn't," says Gilhooly.

The landfill is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
