Leingang Honored with Non-School Award

Posted: Updated:

Bismarck's Jake Leingang is being honored from the North Dakota Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association for what he did without a Demons uniform on.

Leingang is now a two-time champion in the 5K at the New Balance National Outdoor Track Meet, recently setting a new national record.

"I wasn't really expecting it. I knew I my perfect race could be around there. I knew the workouts were good. The coaches prepared me very well, so I knew I was ready for a fast time. I knew the competition was there and I'm just really happy that I actually did what we kind of planned to do," says Leingang.

Leingang also took third in the Foot Locker National Cross Country meet. And he was in the top three in two national one-mile races.

Jake will run for the University of Oregon in college, and that's where this year's Dakota Award winner goes to college.

Laura Roesler of Fargo earned that honor.

The Non-School Team of the Year is Minot State hockey. The Beavers won the national club championship.
