Minot State Hockey Wins NDAPSSA Non-School Team of the Year

Posted: Updated:

The Minot State hockey team has had a very good season. They've won the national championship, Wade Regier was named coach of the year, and goalie Wyatt Waselenchuk was named player of the year. It's only fitting that the Beavers would win another award. The North Dakota Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association named the Beavers the non-school team of the year today.

"It's one of those prestigious honors that you learn from that's big at the state level. You're talking about many different programs and teams throughout the entire state, so obviously the big cities in Grand Forks and Fargo, and for us to be recognized at that level is just an honor for our program to be recognized at the state. And it's something that's exciting for our program," said Minot State hockey coach Wade Regier.

It was a special year for the Beavers, winning 30 games and capping it all off with the 9-5 victory over Lindenwood in the ACHA national championship. Now, comes the tough part-- following that success up, but Coach Regier thinks his team can do it.

"I think it's a motivation to succeed for us as a program. You can't just be sitting on your toes, you've go to be excited for the next season, but more importantly, I think it's something that you learn that comes with winning a national championship."
