CAT Student Pass

Posted: Updated:

School is out for the summer. With a lot of extra time to fill, students may want to get around Bismarck and Mandan to visit with friends or to get to their summer job.

The CAT bus is stepping in to help transport students and offering them a special pass just for the summer.

Jaydon Morris is a recent high school graduate. He is spending his summer in Bismarck, but does not have a way of getting around the city.

"I do not like being behind the wheel that much for how much has been going around in New Town. There has been oil trucks and a few car wrecks because of the oil trucks. So it kind of spooks me to be behind the wheel," said Jaydon Morris.

So Morris decided to try out the CAT bus in Bismarck.

"I was kind of scared at first. I have never ridden a town bus before. But the second time it was actually kind of exciting. You get to see parts of Bismarck just by riding the bus," said Morris.

Morris is just one of the many students CAT bus is trying to get to use their student pass program. They offer a $20 student pass for unlimited rides from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

"It is a really good deal for students to take advantage of. So if they have a job or just want to get around town to go see friends or go to the mall, or maybe they are taking summer school, it's a great opportunity for them to get some place from point A to point B around Bismarck and Mandan," said CAT Marketing Director Jen Raab.

There are 10 different bus routes in Bismarck and two in Mandan. In addition to transporting students to work and social activities, CAT drivers are seeing more students use the pass program to get to summer school.

"It is reliable. It is safe. From a parents standpoint, you know when your child is going to get where they need to be or your teenager if they need to get to work or wherever it might be, you know when they are going to get there. You know that they are going to get there safely," said Raab.

So for Jaydon Morris, this just might be his ticket around town for the remainder of the summer.

Children who attended kindergarten through 12th grade this school year qualify for the student pass. The buses run from 6:30am-6:30pm Monday through Friday, with a limited schedule on Saturdays. For more information and schedules, you can log onto http://bismantransit.com
