Woman Killed in Lincoln Meadows

Posted: Updated:

The Burleigh County Sheriff's Department is investigating a homicide in the Lincoln Meadows Trailer Court.  Sheriff Pat Heinert says a woman was killed inside her home this afternoon, and the woman's son is a person of interest.  No ages or names have yet been released.
Deputies received a 911 call around noon about a domestic assault at the home.

"Upon arrival our deputies found a female victim who was later identified to be deceased," said Heinert.

Deputies are still investigating what exactly happened, and had few details about what led to the assault. The victim, her two sons, and another woman were all inside the home at some point.  One of the sons escaped the home and was able to call for help.  When authorities arrived, the other son and the woman had fled the scene, but were later found at a Bismarck hospital, where the woman needed surgery.

Both sons were also treated at the hospital.

"One of these three people is a person of interest for us in this homicide as well as the aggravated assault of the party who is in surgery," said Heinert.

At some point in the afternoon, the argument had moved from the home, to a vehicle. Authorities say everyone involved in the incident has been accounted for, however they are still looking for a weapon, a knife, along the road.

"A knife is one of the weapons.  We have more than that," Heinert said.

Neighbors say the community is normally quiet, but said ambulances had been called to the victim's home several times for medical situations.  They say at first, they thought that's what had happened again.

"We've lived across the street from them for 12 years, and never really seen any problems, never really heard any fighting going on," said Diane Sailer. "It's scary. It's scary."

"I work at home so I hadn't seen anything but the cruisers and they put up the tape," said next-door-neighbor Bonnie Johnson. "Like anyone you'd be curious when cops start walking across your lawn."

Johnson says the victim was a nice woman who was a good friend, and she says she's still in shock absorbing the news.
