Main Street Minute: Parker Dental and Peacock Alley

As Bismarck and Mandan continue to grow, so do the need for services. And a few extras are finding their way in at existing businesses as well, giving a bigger-city feel to a growing community.

There's another dental office open in Bismarck.  Parker Dental opened the first week of April on Coleman Street.  Riley Parker says he wanted to open his own practice after working in Oregon, then for two years in Turtle Lake, North Dakota.

He offers comprehensive dental services including root canals, dentures, fillings and teeth whitening.  He says Bismarck is a growing community, and it seemed like a good place to open.

"One thing you always need is health care in every branch," Parker says.  "While there are plenty of dentists in Bismarck, some areas are underserved.  I'm up here on the north end, which is very underserved."

Parker Dental is a small practice, and Riley wants to keep his services focused on the patient.  He uses new equipment that is gentle and quiet to bring down dental anxiety.

The streets of downtown Bismarck are beginning to take on a big city feel.  Several outdoor patios are popping up, and a bike rack is in place outside of Peacock Alley. Owner Dale Zimmerman put up the rack, which can hold 14 bikes, after getting approval from the city.  Before, bike owners had nowhere to put their bikes and would instead chain them to trees, signs and light posts.

Zimmerman is also in the process of putting up an outdoor patio on 5th Street. He hopes to have it open the first week of June.  Zimmerman says the patio will be an extension of the restaurant at Peacock Alley.
