A monument in Buffalo, North Dakota completed late in the fall of 2012 was officially dedicated on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. The American Legion Easton, Yanish Post # 10 says they are proud to announce the construction of the monument at the Buffalo City Park on Main Street, honoring the men and women who served in the armed forces.

The monument is a six-foot by ten-foot black granite open-book like structure which sits on a granite base. A Medal of Honor symbol will be engraved on the upper center with ribbon like carvings going to the top of the book.

The monument foundation is in the shape of a pentagon with Service Seals engraved on the base. Four flags will be displayed behind the monument. At the entrance to the monument will be granite benches engraved: "Served with honor and pride and book of valor."

A Buffalo Medal of Honor recipient's name will be engraved under the medal followed by the random engraving of other Service Veterans names beginning at the top of each page.

Retired marine and North Dakota Public Service commissioner Brian Kalk was there, along with Bill Marcks, Post #10 Commander, Vice Commander District One North Dakota American Legion, and Margaret Vollmuth, Commander Post #10 Auxilliary.

At the Memorial Day dedication program, the names on the monument were read, the Post #10 Honor Guard did a 21 gun salute and Taps was played by the North Dakota Patriot Guard.
