Main Street Minute: Western Edge Electric and Plains Commerce Bank

A new electric stop is open in Bismarck. Western Edge Electric is celebrating a new business and a new building on Saratoga Avenue in north Bismarck. Owner Dan Schonert created the business, formerly Larry's Electric of Mandan, after Larry retired.

Schonert says there is a big need for his services in the area. "Bismarck is a growing town; the whole state of North Dakota is a growing community. With the oil field boom has brought so many people, and with people has brought new businesses. Bismarck alone is going so fast, can't hardly keep up."

Western Edge Electric offers commercial, residential, industrial, and agricultural lighting services, as well as other services. The business has six employees and is looking forward to a busy summer.

Schonert has 18 years of experience in the electric industry.

A new branch of South Dakota based Plains Commerce Bank is opening in Bismarck.
The bank will be opening in the old America's Mattress building on south 3rd street.

Plains Commerce has seven locations in South Dakota. Bank president Brent Heinert says he expects the branch to open around May 1. Heinert says they are still interviewing for staff positions, but expect to add four to six employees.

He says Bismarck was a good location for a new branch, because it's a growing community where things are happening.
