Inside Business: Building Renovations

Eggers Audio-Video has been selling stereo equipment and much more out of their location on Main Avenue for 20 of their 31 years. Owner Rolf Eggers says one thing is certain in the electronics business: change.

"The things we can do now are light years ahead of what we used to be able to do."

The kinds of inventory they offer have changed as well, especially with the onset of wireless controls. Eggers has been in business for 31 years and there`s been a lot of technological changes in that time. From an old stereo console in your living room to today when you can control the music throughout your house with an ipad or iphone.

"We can have whole house music systems run on keypads. We still do a fair amount of those," Rolf said.

The store recently consolidated into just half of the space they were using after a renovation freshened up the north side of the building.

"We really needed to remodel. The old building was tired and worn. We were able to build a brand new store," Rolf said.

The south half of the building fronting Main Avenue will soon be the new home of EAPC Architects and Engineers. EAPC`s Bismarck office is managed by Mechanical Engineer Jim Tyler, and he is looking forward to moving into the new space next month.

"The new space will allow us to showcase our talents a little bit more. Our existing space wasn`t as professional as I`d like it to be."

The full-service firm offers architectural, wind energy and industrial consulting services from offices in North Dakota, Minnesota, Vermont and Argentina. Their Bismarck office presently houses 12 employees in about 3,000 square feet. This new space will nearly double that, as well as provide room for the extra employees Tyler would like to add over the next five years. Plus it keeps them downtown.

"We just wanted to be downtown. It`s the place to be as an architecture firm."

Tyler says this space fits what he`s been looking for since opening the Bismarck office in 2006.

EAPC Architects and Engineers has another four locations in North Dakota, as well as one in Minnesota. They were founded in 1967, and have 110 employees.
