I am honored to be North Dakota's only Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) since 2005, the highest distinction from the American Meteorological Society. I've also been awarded the NWA television seal of approval. I have four Emmys, and have been nominated ten times since 2005.
My earliest thoughts were centered on great weather. There was no guessing all through childhood when I "grew up", my job had to involve some aspect of weather. I'm often asked why I like snow so much. I guess the answer comes from living in Los Angeles the first thirteen years of my life, where it never snowed. I remember staring at snow-capped mountains east of my house wondering what it would be like to live where it snowed! That dream became a reality when I moved to Kansas City in 1984. Fourteen years later, North Dakota became my new home. What a weather paradise! What better place than right here to experience all types of weather conditions. I am not shy to say I enjoy cold and snowy weather. I no longer have to only look at distant snow-capped mountains!
I'm happy to call myself a "family man". My wife LuWanna is a North Dakota native. My three children, Brandon, and twins Logan and Kelsey are the joys of my life and were born here in the Peace Garden State. Happiness to me is spending time with them (often playing in the snow!)
My sport of choice is football and my favorite team in the Kansas City Chiefs!! Although I do enjoy a good Twins baseball game.
My credentials include the CBM designation from the American Meteorological Society, and the National Weather Association Broadcast Seal of Approval. I have a college degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Kansas with special emphasis on flash flood producing thunderstorms and winter storms.
I am honored to have received four Emmy Awards, competing with fellow meteorologists in larger cities such as Minneapolis and Des Moines. An Emmy in weather is not categorized by market size, meaning the competition is combined with only one winner. I've been nominated ten times.
Emmy Awards, "Weather - Weathercast", National Television Academy, Upper Midwest Chapter - 2012 and 2011.
Emmy Awards, "On Camera Talent: Weather Anchor", National Television Academy, Upper Midwest Chapter - 2007 and 2005.
