The Blue Hawks won for the third straight week on Saturday. Dickinson State beat the 15th ranked team in the NAIA, which also produced the North Star Conference player of the week.
Defensive back Robert Nalewaja made three interceptions in the victory over Valley City State.
The Blue Hawks also used the win to take over the lead in the conference standings.
"It takes a while and we're kind of a work in progress now but one thing I like is we're playing very hard of both sides of the ball. Defensively we're playing hard we're wetting the offense off the field. We're done a pretty good job for the most part and I think we're going to continue to improve on both sides of the ball and we have the framework for a team that can do some good things. We just have to keep going," said said head coach Pete Stanton.
The Hawks will try to keep it going against Waldorf on Oct. 3. DSU is a half-game ahead of Mayville State in the North Star standings.
