Midgets Getting Ready for WDA Tournament

The Dickinson boys basketball team lost its first nine games before picking up its first win of the season.

The Midgets have now won five of their last eight games going into tonight's game against Bismarck High.

The head coach says focusing on the fundamentals of basketball has helped the Midgets improve as they get closer to the WDA tournament.

"We've been preaching to our kids all year long, you really can't get caught up in the opponent you're playing," said head coach John Wilson. "Really the game of basketball is, you got to play to the game of basketball. The fundamentals, the screening, cutting, the close outs, the footwork, the follow through, the shooting. That's what it really comes down too."

The Midgets have played lots of games in a short amount of time recently, and Wilson thinks his team has been gaining valuable experience.

"We started talking to our team," Wilson said. "There's good teams and there's good tournament teams. We're getting that experience now with six games in fourteen days. We had a couple back-to-back nights, now we've got one on the road, we get one at home three games a week, so these are the experiences that we have to be able to take onto that WDA tournament."

Dickinson and Bismarck high tip off at 7:30 central time tonight.
