The West Region wrestling is on Saturday the Mandan Middle School. The State Tournament is next week in Fargo. The Class A coaches have made their last vote on who they think will win.
It's not a huge surprise to see Bismarck High as the number 1 ranked team. The Demons beat West Fargo in a dual but no matter how good you may be, you can not stop looking for improvement said Demons co-head coach Scott Knowlen. "We need to get a little bit better. We have guys on our team that need a little better sprawl. We got guys on our team that need a little more confidence on their bottom wrestling. We got guys on our team that need to state pitting up more pressure when they're un the top position so there's some improvements, specific improvements that we're looking to make with certain guys and we can't lose sight of that because if the state tournament was tomorrow we're not ready."
The Demons have four individuals ranked number 1 in their weight class. Taylor Nein is that guy at 126 pounds, "he's been in the state finals twice and he's looking to win his first state title this year," Knowlen explained, "It's been a goal of his for quite some time now. He's just shy of it the last two years. He's got another tough task in front of him. There's a couple of kids in his weight, I'm thinking of Hutzenbiler of Dickinson and that split this year so it's not going to be a slam dunk."
Dillon Spaulding, Adam Blees and Tristan Hall are the other Bismarck wrestlers ranked number 1. Ryan Zachmeier of Mandan, the Saints Tate Barnhardt and Hunter Eckert of Century are the other top ranked local athletes.
