Dickinson Favored to Win State Gymnastics Meet

The state gymnastics meet is this week and there is a clear cut favorite: the Dickinson Midgets.

DHS has finished as the champion or state runner-up nine years in a row.

Dickinson is led by a pair of outstanding seniors: Acacia Fossum and Keana Kudrna. Fossum already has an extremely impressive resume.

"Ranked No. 1. She's a four-time all-around champion already in five years in high school qymnastics starting in seventh grade. She's won 11 championships during her career so far," said Kent VanElls, Midgets head coach.

"This year is really surprising for me because at the beginning of the year we had a lot of younger girls so I didn't think we'd have that much experience and they really pulled through and we have a lot of depth now which us really impressive," Fossum said.

Kudrna says being entering state as the No. 1 ranked team will help because of the rotation of events plus the memory of a year ago will provide some incentive.

"We did get second in the state last yea,r but this year is a lot different. We have a lot more experience this year and a lot more depth, which I think is a plus," Kudrna said.

The state gymnastics meet is Friday and Saturday in Jamestown.
