Nuverra Terraficient Project Recycles Drill Cuttings

The North Dakota Department of Health announced a new pilot study to develop state standards for recycling oil field special waste.

Nuverra Environmental Solution's Terraficient project turns drill cuttings into road base, gravel additive, general construction fill and more. The company says this will reduce the environmental risk of disposing drill cuttings at well sites and landfills.

"From an operator's standpoint, if you move it to a landfill, they still have that risk indefinitely. Here we're separating that risk. As soon as we are done processing it, the risk for the operator goes away," said Nuverra CEO Mark Johnsrud.

Nuverra started processing drill cuttings at a treatment facility near Watford City earlier this year.
