ND Corporate Farming Measure defeated

Opponents of corporate farming in North Dakota picked up a decisive win yesterday by defeating Referred Measure 1 by a wide margin.
The North Dakota Farmer's Union (NDFU) led the charge against the measure.

The union's president says family farms are important for North Dakota because it keeps the landowners local and part of the community.

"Every time you have a commodity, go into a pricing situation, you're not going to say, 'Ok lets change the business model because that fixes it.' You've got to address the issue. The issue is price," said Mark Watne, NDFU president.

The union's president says he and about a thousand others organized more than 90,000 calls as well as 5,000 door knocks to strike down the measure.
