When it comes to campus safety,. Dickinson State university isn't taking things lightly. For the first time, DSU is increasing its security presence from nightly shifts to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The university has hired a new director of security with an extensive past working with the Bismarck Police Department and as head of security for casinos in Las Vegas. The director will hire four additional security staff to secure parking lots, doors and escort students and faculty safely.
"The biggest thing that we can provide, I think, is presence so that the DSU community sees us and know that we are here and we have any people with ill intent they can see us and know we're here," said Jack Schulz, DSU's new director of security and risk management.
Schulz says once staffing needs are met, the university will implement the new 24/7 program. Zarina Khairzada will have more on this story this weekend.
