ORIGINAL STORY: Police are still searching for an armed suspect whose actions led officers to surround U.S. Foods around 11:15 a.m..
Authorities were told witnesses saw the suspect approach a female with a handgun, and after the witnesses were asked to back away, they reported they saw the man enter the U.S. Foods building.
Saratoga Avenue and parts of the surrounding area were flooded with officers as they searched for the suspect. Law enforcement determined he didn't enter the building and most officers left the area by 1 p.m.
Legacy High School, Sunrise Elementary School, and Shiloh Christian School had shelters in place for safety reasons, and the shelters were eventually lifted.
Businesses in the area received an alert from an interactive community notification system, and it affected some nearby residents.
"We've had some people that have been around with the swat team members of the police department to go around the neighborhood and walk around and see what was going on," said a resident.
Police say the man is wearing a white shirt, and that's the only description we have of him. They are following up on leads and officers continue to patrol where the event took place.
