Decorating a new home often takes a little more effort than thumbing through a stack of catalogues.
And thanks to a recent expansion, a store in downtown Bismarck is helping people find plenty of new ideas.
Whether you`re giving your kitchen or your bedroom a new look, or decorating an entire house, it`s easy to find plenty of inspiration walking through Spaces Interior Design in downtown Bismarck.
"We have baby gifts, we have women`s fragrances, we have the clothing as well as the furniture, the flooring, the window treatments, the artwork, the accessories," owner Lisa Bohrer said.
The store opened a little over a year ago on the ground floor of the Kirkwood Bank building at the corner of 2nd Street & Main Avenue in downtown Bismarck and has enjoyed steady growth ever since.
"I chose the downtown because it`s the heart of Bismarck, the heart of Bismarck-Mandan," Bohrer said.
Bohrer says a typical customer will figure out a budget and set to work finding items and colors to compliment a room, or an entire house. She says her job is not to tell the customer what they want, but rather to present new possibilities the customer may not be aware of.
"Open them up to things they never thought of before. We give them a new vision. Once you live in a house, you sometimes can`t see past what you`re living with and what you have," Bohrer said.
Bohrer says interior design wasn`t something she just fell into. She`s actually enjoyed bringing rooms to life since she was a child.
"I grew up wanting to be an interior designer. As a little kid, I was constantly moving my mom`s furniture around," Bohrer said.
And thanks to a recent expansion, Spaces now has around 85 hundred square feet, giving Bohrer plenty of room to re-arrange furniture in.
Bohrer says she`s also planning to host a number of evening social events in the store in November leading up to the holidays.
