Downtown Terrace Project | 12/20/2011
Bismarck`s downtown area will look dramatically different within the next few years, and there are plans for a new commercial space featuring a rooftop patio.
Demolition is underway on the 500 block of Main Avenue in Bismarck. Workers are tearing down the former Midwest Business Solutions building to make way for a new vision by Bismarck native Dr. Rick Becker.
"We`re going to be taking the buildings down, recreating with a new structure, sort of the same look of an older downtown, an authentic downtown," explained Becker.
Becker and architects from Leaf Design Studio have been drafting plans for a new multi-story building. That`ll include offices, a full-service restaurant and a bar with a rooftop patio.
Becker said, "I think Bismarck is ready for something like that, we value the outdoor experience and we have a few spots in town, but they`re somewhat limited, I think this is really going to open it up.
Becker says the plans also call for two additional floors on the north end of the new complex, which may be rented out as high end apartments in the future. One problem they hope to address is parking.
"The parking situation downtown is pretty tight and I think for any new ventures downtown, there has to be a parking solution or it`s not going to work," he said.
To deal with parking concerns, the new complex will tie into the nearby Parkade parking ramp via a skyway over the alley. Workers plan to dig the foundation for the building beginning this winter with completion scheduled for spring of 2013.
Architects say the project is around 32,000 square feet. Construction is expected to cost just under $3 million.
