Two-a-day practices before high school football season begins

BISMARCK, N.D. - High School football teams only have a few weeks to get ready for the season.

One of the ways to help speed the learning process is to have two practices in one day.

Every coach seems to have a different approach to two-a-days but Century's Ron Wingenbach likes to hold one early in the morning and the other late morning.

"The kids enjoy it because at least they get a little part of the day left in the afternoon. It also allows some continuity with our meetings. We start at 7:45 with our meetings. We have meetings usually between sessions while the kids grab a bite to eat and it works out real well for us plus the staff enjoys it as well," said Ron Wingenbach, Century head coach.

Some 9-Man teams will start games later this week.

For Class-AAA teams like Century, the season starts at the end of next week.

Next week is also when we will air football preview stories on the AAA teams from Bismarck, Mandan and Dickinson, plus St.Mary's in Class-AA.
