It’s a WDA rematch with a trip to the Dakota Bowl on the line. The Century football team is hosting Minot in the semi-finals on Friday. Century advanced to the AAA second round with an extremely close win over Fargo Davies.
Head Coach Ron Wingenbach describes their close win as, "you look at the turnover ratio. We were a negative three and I think the kids understand if you're going to do that in high school football you're giving up three possessions and that's huge. Fortunately the last five possession they didn't get a first down and our defense really rose to the occasion and we were able to put a few points up on the board late in the ballgame."
It doesn’t get any later than the final play of the game as the Patriots kicked a game-winning field goal. Senior Wide Receiver Oliver Nelson adds, "we struggled to move the ball, I know we turned it over a couple times, our defense just couldn't seem to figure it out the first half, but then the second half, I think we got it together. I think we had like, five or something three and outs in the fourth quarter, so I think our defense really got it together and stepped it up, and our offense was able to put it together enough to get it in the end-zone, and then Thunder Foot (Austin Underhill) came to kick, I'm glad we got a good kicker."
Century will take on Minot in a playoff rematch at 7:00 CT tomorrow night at the Bowl.
