BISMARCK, N.D. - While it's the conference opener for his high school alma mater, it's the regular season opener for Bismarck's Carson Wentz.
Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles play Washington on Sunday afternoon.
The Redskins beat them twice last year so Wentz said it's a good team to open against.
"I'm excited, obviously I'm more excited because it's week one but to go to Washington, a divisional rival to start the year I couldn't ask for a better scenario honestly. It's an exciting time and we both are aware of each other. We know each others tendencies. They have a new defensive coordinator and they're doing some different things but at the end of the day it's just going to come down to players making plays," said Wentz.
Carson was asked this week to compare the start of the season a year ago to now. Last year, he went from rookie third stringer to starter.
Wentz said: "This weekend we had a couple days off and I was like, man, this weekend last year was a little different. A little more relaxing this weekend this year but I thought about that this weekend but coming back in now I was excited for week one and now you're into preparation mode so all of that is kind of behind you and it's full speed ahead for Washington."
Sunday's Eagles-Redskins game is a 12:00 p.m. CST start.
