Junior College volleyball playoffs are just the opposite of class-B high school, because in community college, it goes region, district and then the big one, nationals. In high school, it’s districts, then regionals before the big one, state.
Bismarck State is one step away from the national tournament. The Mystics host Central Community College from Nebraska in a best 2-of-3 later this week.
"It's a very exciting time but I think we've come through it because we've been passing and serving very well,” said head coach of the Mystics, Jeni Walsh. “It's been our basic go to all season long. If we do the basic things well our offense can go from there but it starts with the serve-pass game."
It’s the nature of junior college sports, but Walsh has a young team. She knew it would take some time to come together, but BSC enters the district championship with 29 wins on the season.
"I knew we had some puzzle pieces I just didn't know how they were going to fit together with a young squad and it's all come together very nicely. We have a couple of real strong captains that have really showed the underclassmen the way and it's paid off," said Walsh.
The first match is on Friday at the Armory beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT.
