Marauders prepare for NCAA Regionals

BISMARCK, N.D. - Well another year, another successful season for the University of Mary Cross Country Team. Last weekend, both cross country teams were in Sioux Falls for the Northern Sun Championships, and there was a lot of success.

"You know both teams stepped up, and we talked about preparation a lot, and I think both teams really did a nice job preparing themselves to achieve the goals we had set a long time ago - really, 13, 15, 17 weeks ago and then it came down to executing that preparation, and both teams did a great job. The women ended up champions, and the men ended up third place overall, and we were very satisfied on that day for those types of results," says Head Coach Dennis Newell.

"Oh wow. It was, it was great. Everyone performed to the best of their ability, and you can tell everyone wanted it. It was a goal we had set, and we were all just really willing to work for it, so it was really exciting getting that top spot," says Kate Fox, University of Mary Cross Country Runner.

Saturday the teams will be in Sioux Falls for the NCAA Regionals, and they have a lot to prepare for.

"You know a lot of, it's very similar to conference. You know, we're doing much of the same training and things of that nature that we did going into conference. We're not really pulling back until the national meet, with the women. With the men, we are pulling back a little bit just to have them really, really prepared. We're looking for a top 10 team finish with the men, and we're hoping we can sneak an individual in the national meet on the men's side, so. So the women, it's kind of business as usual, and let's get the job done, and let's do it well, and, with the men, like I said, we're going to pull back and really try and surprise some people," says Newell.
