The University of Mary women’s soccer team takes the longest winning streak in the Northern Sun into the conference playoffs which start on Wednesday. The Marauders beat the Northern State Wolves on Sunday to make it three victories in a row.
U-Mary finished 5th in the 16-team league, which means it has a match-up with the no. 4 seeded Minot State, on Wednesday. Going into this rival match-up, head coach of the Marauders, Sarah Cook says, "I think 4th, 5th, we're kind of the same right now, with the exception of, they get the home game. So, we know that the crowd is certainly going to be in their favor, we're hoping that the closeness also gets is a good fan base going there, that's what we're wanting to see. But we're just happy that the travel will be shorter, you know it's a field that we're familiar with, and an opponent that we're familiar with."
This is the Marauders first trip to the post-season since 2012, and the first time in a few months that the Marauders will play the Beavers. "The game is completely different,” Cook adds. “We saw them on September 3rd, so both teams have changed quite a bit, but at this point, it is win or go home, so I think the circumstances changes things quite a bit, but it's still Minot, and it's still that rival game, and we're excited to be a part of it."
The Marauders and Beavers played once during the regular season, as U-Mary took the 2-1 win. Wednesday’s match in Minot starts at 5:00 CT.
