DICKINSON, N.D. - The Dickinson State Blue Hawks women’s basketball team is having a very good year to say the least. They are on an 11-game winning streak, the best in the North Star Conference, and are ranked 23rd in the NAIA.
But having a good season isn’t all that new to this basketball team.
Head coach Mark Graupe said: “You know we were in the National Tournament last year, we were ranked in every national poll last year, and so we had high expectations going into this year. And, we've been ranked every week except for one in the national poll this year. So, not trying to sound arrogant, but I kind of expected that we'd be right in the thick of things once again."
And for another year, these women have set high standards, and are working closer to that ultimate goal.
"I wouldn't say an expectation, I'd say more of a goal I guess as a team, especially with a bunch of seniors, and you know the success we had last year we wanted to build off that. So, we, every team's going to go on a steak sometime. Whether it's a two-game streak, three, four, 10, 12, whatever it is. They go on a streak, and this is our streak and we just kind of hope to keep it alive I guess," said senior point guard for the Blue Hawks, Taylor Henningsgard.
As these women look ahead of their season, there are only a handful of games remaining, as they will play at home two more times before the post-season begins.
