FARGO, N.D. - With the exception of Dickinson State, the college football season, for teams in North Dakota, begins this week. The Bison are hosting the Delta Devils on Saturday afternoon.
Mississippi Valley State comes to the Fargodome to open the Bison season. The obvious goal is to win the game, but Head Coach Chris Klieman says a strong second is building depth.
"Because of being able to redshirt all of those players last year and because the guys are a year grown up in the system. You can name a bunch of guys whether it's Tanner Volson, who played the first game or Dan Marlette and Levi Jordheim who are going to play a significant amount of defensive snaps. We just feel like we have more depth this year throughout the spring and throughout fall camp that we've been able to develop," said Klieman.
One place the Bison do not have to worry about is quarterback. Easton Stick is ready to lead the offense once again.
"He's much more confident and more comfortable in our system now,” said Klieman. “I think he's meshed with Coach Messingham extremely well. I think they're on the same page as far as making our passing game much more efficient. We don't have as many passing plays in so to speak. We have a lot fewer concepts which I think makes Easton that much more comfortable and to be able to change plays and stuff and he's done a nice job of that."
Klieman says only one true freshman will play to start the season, Spencer Waege is a defensive lineman from Watertown.
