WILLISTON, N.D. - A Williston woman is in jail after stealing a truck and vandalizing it while claiming to be borrowing it from a friend.

Williston police say 21-year-old Tanisha Marie James was riding a bike with a juvenile male last week when she stopped beside a Ford F-350 truck parked at the airport and told the male riding with her that she was borrowing it from a friend.

She retrieved keys from inside the truck, and the two drove off.

The truck was reported stolen that night by an airport employee.

Over the weekend, police say the truck was spotted at a residence on 4th Avenue West and 4th Street West. The truck had damage to the exterior and interior, including drawings in black marker and the initials t.j.

On Saturday, police located James and she admitted to driving the vehicle, and drawing in it.

Officers found a syringe with meth residue, keys from the stolen truck and a black marker in a backpack James was carrying.

James has been charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
