WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston is a winter wonderland. The city is well on it's way to receiving more snow than any year since 2011.
Approximately 40 inches of snow has fallen in the past month. Street maintenance crews are keeping up with Mother Nature but have also received help clearing roadways.
The city has expanded from 90 miles of roadway to over 200 since the oil boom. The additional equipment required to clear all the new subdivisions is bid out to private contractors.
"With the expansions we've had of the new subdivisions and things that have come into Williston, our crews could not get that done within a week. We don't have the equipment or manpower to get it done," says Dave Bell, Director of Public Works.
Williston's record snowfall occurred in the winter of 2010-2011 when 107.2 inches of snow fell.
