FRIDLEY, Minn. - Rush hour road rage turned deadly Thursday in Friedley, Minn.

Police say it started after a car accident on a highway north of Minneapolis.

One of the drivers, 33-year-old Simon Matthew Schiffler of Williston, N.D., was acting erratically, got out of his car and accosted multiple people.

Witnesses say he grabbed a large knife and attempted to assault another driver.

That's when an armed bystander, who was not involved in the crash intervened by firing a weapon, and shot Schiffler in the face.

Schiffler was taken to a local hospital where he died. The man who shot him stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers.

Police say the shooter was not taken into custody.
