Williston kicks off 'Summer Nights on Main'

Williston kicked off its summer concert series in style June 30.

Music like this will be common on Main Street on Thursday nights from now on.

"Summer Nights on Main is a free, family friendly event, so we have food vendors, a beer garden, lots of kids' activities and a free concert for the community," said Kristina Kjos, Williston Downtowners Association.

To kick off the festivities, downtown also had the annual Rockin' Ribfest with 13 cooks who felt their ribs were the best.

"It's KC style, man, it's just done right. It's just done right. Right some, right flavor, right rubs, the best there is," said Chris Marks, Purity Oilfield Service.

Some Main Street shop keepers also took to the street for the annual sidewalk sales.

"It's just a great way to give back to the community. It's a great way for people to get some great sales on great products. And it's just a fun activity and it's a great day to be out in the sun and be out supporting the rest of the retailers and businesses in the area," said Angela Skogen, Cooks on Main.

This year brought the event back to Main Street after construction forced the event to move temporarily.

"Especially with all the new construction they've done to update Main Street it's awesome. Enjoy the new construction, enjoy the new plants," said Katrina Auttelet, participant.

And the community came out in droves to kick off the event.

"Oh my gosh. We've had people lined up since about 8:30 today. It's been a full day of traffic and from everybody on their lunch break to a day out with their kids," said Skogen.

With concerts every Thursday until August, there will be plenty more nights like this one on the town.
