WILLISTON, N.D. - The Williston Police Department has named their Officer of the Year for 2016.
Detective Daniel Dery has been with the department since 2013. He was promoted to detective last summer.
While the news was surprising to Dery, for his superiors it was a no-brainer.
"It's a great honor to be selected for that. It was surprising to be selected for something like that out of a police department that has such great people working for it," says Dery.
"He is always willing to help anyone, whether it's patrolmen or the task force or other detectives. He's always willing to put his work aside and jump in and help anyone," says Sgt. Det. Amy Nickoloff, Williston Police Department.
Dery contributes the award to his mentors, many of whom also were officers of the year.
