Williston City Commission passes motion to extend removal of crew camp buildings

Williston, N.D. For the second time in as many months, the Williston City Commission passed a motion tonight to extend the removal process for crew camp buildings.

If the ordinance is eventually approved, crew camp buildings can remain in place until May 1, 2018. And the sites must be reclaimed by August 1 of that year.

City leaders had voted for an extension once before, but rescinded it last month because it was tied to an ordinance that a federal judge said wasn't enforceable.

It's now up to planning and zoning to hold a special meeting to expedite the crew camp removal process.

The commission also approved a motion to allow crew camp operators to continue operating within the city limits until an ordinance is adopted.

Currently all crew camps operate under expired permits.
