BISMARCK, ND - Watford City's Mayor, Brent Sanford, has been elected to be North Dakota's new lieutenant governor. That means something will need to be done to replace Sanford in his current position.

"The city council, upon receiving a resignation from myself, would have various options, one is to nominate one of them from the six that are on the city council currently, and the next option is to pass a resolution for a special election," said Sanford.

Sanford has been mayor since 2010.
