Watford City Police Chief resigns after admitting to hacking, sending email from co-worker's account

WATFORD CITY, N.D. - The Watford City Police Chief has resigned over a controversial email he sent from a coworker's account.

An email dated January 25 from Assistant Chief Jessie Wellen said:

"I wanted to announce after much thought that I am coming out of the closet. I cannot deny my homosexual tendencies."

However, the email came from Chief Arthur Walgren, who admitting to hacking Wellen's email while he was away.

He said that he only meant it as a joke but takes responsibility for his actions.

Walgren sent a letter of resignation to the Watford City Council on Sunday.

Captain Shawn Doble will serve as interim chief until a new one has been hired.
