Vegas Motel, Guest Lodge to close amid slow economy; Sevens remains open

MINOT, N.D. – The slowdown in North Dakota’s economy has compelled a hotelier to close down two Minot motels, for now.

Greg Pekovich, who operates the Vegas Motel and the Guest Lodge in Minot, has decided to close both hotels, according to Wendy Rupert, the General Manager for both properties.

Rupert says that Pekovich cited the high supply of hotel rooms in Minot, compared to the low demand for them.

The motels will operate through next Sun., Feb. 25.

Rupert says that employees who are losing their jobs are all being presented with job opportunities at other Minot hotels, and roughly half of them have accepted job offers.

Rupert wanted to reiterate that the Sevens Bar & Restaurant, which is connected to the Vegas Motel, will remain open and will continue its functions, including restaurant, bar, catering and conventions.

She also says they are working with groups to continue hosting the annual North Dakota Texas Hold ‘Em Championship in December and January.

Rupert also said that Pekovich left the door open to possibly reopening the motels if the economy improves, but for now they will remain closed.
