Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving tradition in Bismarck

Hundreds hits the streets of Bismarck on Thanksgiving morning to work off some calories before the big meal.

The annual turkey trot offers a chance for humans and their four-legged friends to get out for a 5 or 10K run, 5K competitive walk and a fun walk. Participants run, walk and jog along the Missouri River.

For some it is a family tradition, while others are taking part for the first time.

"Our family has been taking part in this for 20-plus years,” Nick Jolliffe said. “I had a good friend that I worked with who was part of this and he had the cystic fibrosis, so we had a strong connection there so we helped him out a lot."

"I grew up in Bismarck. I actually grew up right down the road and we knew there was a 5K so we're home for Thanksgiving,” Donavon Schumacher said. “We live in Wisconsin right now so we thought we'd take advantage of the race."

The race benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Association of North Dakota.
