A yearlong study on the transportation needs of Bismarck Mandan schools is almost complete. Thursday, there was an opportunity for public input.
Last fall the BisMan Metropolitan Planning Organization started looking at 33 schools to see what problems each face when it comes to all types of transportation. That includes bus, car, bikes and pedestrians. The last study was done in 2005 for just the Bismarck elementary schools. In the new plan, each school is addressed individually with changes like new fences, signs, or route maps.
"We wanted to make sure the public had an opportunity to know what was going on with the study and then they also had an opportunity to learn about any issues that might be occurring at their child's school site,” Rachel Drewlow with the Bismarck Mandan Metro Planning Organization said.
Over the next couple of weeks, the organization will be presenting the plan to the city commissions and schools boards in Mandan and Bismarck for approval.
