Train derailment near Surrey causes traffic headaches

MINOT, N.D. - An early morning train derailment east of Surrey caused some headaches for commuters, though luckily no one was hurt.

Jason Vaagen with the city of Surrey said that the engine of a BNSF train went off the tracks around 7:30 Tuesday morning between Surrey and the Gavin Yards.

He said the derailment blocked off traffic for parts of Pleasant Avenue and Fifth Avenue Northeast, which would have created issues for emergency personnel to access the city, though fortunately that never happened.

Vaagen said the derailment was fixed by 11 a.m. and traffic resumed as normal.
