CNN - America's roads are getting more deadly.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic fatalities last year went up 6 percent, compared to 2015.

The number of fatalities per miles driven also went up to its highest rate since 2008.

So, what's going on? Well, two things. Cheap gas and a strong economy have more people hitting the road.

One positive note, in the big picture, the overall number of traffic fatalities is still close to the record low numbers we had in 2014.
