Traveling in the winter is always a struggle, but the Department of Transportation and the Highway Patrol gives residents a few tips on how to be safe while driving on the icy roads.
Before traveling, the highway patrol encourages motorists to slow down and to curve their driving habits to the conditions outside.
"It's very important to be cautious. I would encourage motorists to check the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s travel map prior to going. Notify loved ones that you are traveling to and from, when you're leaving, and when you should arrive," said Lt. Michael Roark.
The DOT says it's very important to abide to their travel advisories because it's there for motorists safety.
