BISMARCK, N.D. - Last week, we reported on how the North Dakota Department of Health and Chi St. Alexius in Bismarck are dealing with the IV bag shortage. The story for Sanford Health is a little different.
Dr. Chris Meeker says they haven't been hurt by the shortage as much because Sanford is able to move supplies between their hospitals.
Sanford's main supplier is not the Puerto Rico factory that was damaged in Hurricane Maria. Dr. Meeker feels they dodged a major hit, but still had to accommodate for the shortage they are feeling.
“They've been very active in looking for other vendors that supply the fluids. We have more than one. We have the primary one, but we've been able to arrange contracts with others as well,” said Meeker
The factory in Puerto Rico is back online and the Department of Health says relief should be coming by the end of the month.
