WILLISTON, N.D. - While Williston waits for the new airport, operations must continue at Sloulin Field.
The city approved funding to repair a three-quarter-inch rut found on the runway. Airport Director Anthony Dudas says water and snow during the winter months and the presence of larger aircraft are to blame.
The repairs will take place overnight during 12-hour periods, so there won't be any interruption in operations. The scheduled construction dates are Sept. 8, 15, and 22 if necessary.
Dudas says the request for the patch fix is not only to allow bigger aircraft to be able to fly in, but for Sloulin Field to remain fully operational until the new XWA Airport is complete.
Northern Improvement will handle the repair at a cost of $153,032.
