Questions raised about apartment at center of Minot shooting

MINOT, N.D. - As the investigation continues into a shooting Wednesday evening on Minot’s northwest side, police say they’re taking a closer look at the apartment where the shooting happened after learning no one was living there at the time.

Police say the 18-year-old man was shot in the apartment at 1601 12th Street NW before fleeing to a separate, nearby apartment for help.

Police say the crime scene indicates there might have been some attempt at a narcotics deal.

“The interesting part of this story, or this incident, is that the apartment building that was actually, that the shooting took place is actually vacant. But it appears that there's a lot of traffic that has been taking place at the apartment building. So I don't know if it's a frequent location for illegal activity, whether it's narcotics, or any other illegal activity,” said Capt. John Klug, Minot Police Department.

Klug says that victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the hip area, is not offering much information for the investigation.

That's why they're looking to the public for help.

“We're kind of looking for, have neighbors seen vehicles in the area or any certain people in the area? Can they give us any tips about vehicles that they've seen? That kind of thing,” he said.

Police say the victim's injuries are non-life threatening.

Meanwhile, anyone with information on the shooting or any unusual activity going on at the apartment is urged to contact Minot Police or the CrimeStoppers hotline.
